INTO WORK: The NetJob Vocational Training Scheme

"NetJob" started out in 1995 as a Danish pilot project, supported by the European Social Fund, providing vocational training in Information Technology (IT) skills for disabled, unemployed people. The IT industry needed well-qualified workers for work on Web design, database design, programming and IT project management, and at the same time disabled people with physical and sensory disabilities were looking for ways to enter the labour market. The NetJob IT vocational training course has been tailor-made and developed in a collaboration between public and private sector partners. Companies help to define the course curriculum by stating the job skills they require, and besides IT training, trainees are given personal job-coaching and two practical work experience periods. The training scheme has resulted in 85 percent of the trainees getting long-term, unsupported employment in the mainstream IT job market.
