EQUAL Opportunity Employment
Brussels 01-10-2006
The EQUAL initiative aims to put an end to discrimination in employment, whether in recruitment or in the workplace. Projects throughout Europe are providing successful and providing guidance on how to move forward in this crucial area to ensure that the EU makes the most of every member of its workforce.
The EQUAL initiative is funded by the European Social Fund and member States ands supports thousands of Development Projects (DPs) aimed at networking at national and EU level, targetting equality and inclusiveness in working life. DPs promote equality by addressing discrimination based on gender, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation.
The European Commission has published "EQUAL Success stories - development partnerships working against discrimination and inequality in Europe" (2005), highlighting projects which have been particularly innovative and have achieved notable results across the spectrum of anti-discrimination and inclusion actions.
A second report, "EQUAL Guide for Developmental Partnerships" (2005) describes the process of organising and managing anti-discrimination projects, based on the experiences of an eight-member transnational DP over the project lifetime.
